We went to Duffy’s on a Friday night with a little bit of trepidation about the wait. We got lucky, however, because an outside table for two was immediately available. After the hassle we had found parking, we breathed a sign of relief.

I’ve often heard colleagues speak highly of Duffy’s fare, but I had never been to one and so I looked forward to my experience.

It’s a classic sports bar with lots of TVs and the usual bustle, but its food would be the true test for me. We started with Tex-Mex chicken egg rolls ($7.99), which proved to be a hint of things to come. The tasty, crunchy rolls were cut in two, which made it easy to slather on guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. Very nice

My husband ordered the chicken Philly ($7.99). I decided to try the baked .

Maryland crab cakes ($14.99), which on the menu bills as a new item, with sides of baked potato and broccoli. Crab cakes at a sports bar seemed kind of odd, but I decided to gamble.

The chicken Philly was good stuff— big, with lots of chicken and cheese; and the onion rings (an additional 99 cents to substitute for fries) were done just right

So often I end up preferring my husband’s selection, but this night I thought my entrée was better. There were two good-sized, tasty, meaty caked, with not a bread crumb in sight. The zesty Dijon mustard served on the side was the perfect accompaniment for the cakes.

I’m not a big sports fan and so I shy away from sports analogies, but say Duffy’s scored a home run, a touchdown, a… you get the idea.
