Friends had once told me
there were wings, then there were Duffy's wings. Once I finally
tasted them on a catered football game bus trip, I had to agree.
But with no Duffy's near our house, that one catered event
was my only Duffy's experience. When the former Glory Days at
Hypoluxo and Congress went out of business, we were thrilled to see
Duffy's go in some time later. We were planning a family
birthday party for 16, so it seemed like the perfect occasion for
Duffy's wings. We stopped by the day before the party and ordered 50
wings with original, hot and honey garlic sauce on the side ($29.95
for 50). We passed on the "death sauce," since most of our family
wouldn't want them that hot. The wings came with celery and carrots
and a generous portion of bleu cheese dressing.
We also ordered a 6-foot club sub - loaded with ham, turkey,
bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato ($49.99). The soft sub roll
was a hit with our family.
Breading and frying before adding sauce seems to be the key
to the Duffy's difference with wings. Several members of our family
liked them so much that they didn't use any sauce on them.
Judging by the sauce containers when everyone was done, the
honey garlic was the favorite, followed by the original and then the
hot sauce. The garlic sauce might have been the most intense garlic
flavor I have ever tasted on any food.
No matter how you eat them, Duffy's wings are tops. We're
just glad they are in the neighborhood now.
