| THE MUNCHER: DUFFY'S HAS THE RIGHT RECIPE FOR CASUAL DINING
If you're an average person with a healthy appetite looking for a casual place to eat, look no further than Duffy's Sports Grill.
Upon stepping into the dimmed restaurant with TV screens mounted on nearly every wall, my friend and I were seated. While Duffy's does have a full bar that is visible when you first walk in, there also are video games and a netted basketball area for children to shoot for points.
On my friend's advice, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Teriyaki ($9.99) with a side order of rice and tavern fries and a soda ($1.99).
My friend ordered the Penne Alfredo with creamy Parmesan sauce ($6.99) served with garlic toast -- with an addition of grilled chicken ($2.50) and an unsweetened iced tea ($1.99).
My companion enjoyed the '80s music vibe, while I enjoyed the sports photographs on display. Our orders arrived after a short wait, though that would be the last time service was as quick.
Not disguising my hunger, I dived in. The Grilled Chicken Teriyaki came with pineapple/mandarin orange glaze. And though the chicken, along with the fries and rice was hot and delicious to the core, the glaze gave my meal a startling and not particularly enjoyable contrast in taste. After moving the glaze to the side, the meal tasted great. The food was so good, I felt like having seconds.
As my friend began eating the Penne Alfredo with creamy Parmesan sauce, distress came in the form of sweetness. My friend said the Parmesan sauce was too sweet and somewhat "wimpy." The chicken, however, was well prepared, and the garlic toast was a nice treat on the side.
The meal, though delicious and worthy of an encore (for me, at least) still felt incomplete without dessert.
My friend and I shared the warm brownie sundae ($4.99) -- we had no choice as it was desserts for two. The sundae was striped with fudge sauce and topped with whipped cream. Both my friend and I thought we were in dessert heaven as the warm brownie blended nicely with the vanilla ice cream and cool whipped cream. The fudge stripes truly served as "icing on the cake" to round out our meals.
